Ο Λευκός Οίκος ζήτησε την παραίτησή της
Οι δηλώσεις του Αμερικανού προέδρου έρχονται μετά την απόφαση του Λευκού Οίκου να ζητήσει από την Κίμπερλι Γκιλφόιλ να υποβάλει την παραίτησή της από τη θέση της πρέσβη των ΗΠΑ στην Ελλάδα.
Την εξέλιξη επιβεβαίωσε η νέα εκπρόσωπος Τύπου του Λευκού Οίκου, Κέιτι Ζακαράια, η οποία ανέφερε:
«Ζητήσαμε από την πρέσβη Γκιλφόιλ να υποβάλει την παραίτησή της. Υπήρξε πολύτιμο μέλος της ομάδας μας και της ευχόμαστε καλή επιτυχία».
Η απόφαση ήρθε στον απόηχο δημοσιευμάτων της Wall Street Journal, τα οποία, σύμφωνα με το κείμενο, συνδέουν την υπόθεση με καταγγελίες για σκάνδαλο ύψους 100.000 δολαρίων. Οι συγκεκριμένες αναφορές δεν συνιστούν από μόνες τους απόδειξη παρατυπίας.
